frank’s archives at performistanbul

A post by Performistanbul (PCSAA) with photos:

After a weekend full of books, as Performistanbul Live Art Research Space, we will start to share our archive collection with you!

Our archive aims to hold 7000 resources that consists on the contributions of international performance artists and the materials that will be purchased with the donations. We are approaching our goal day by day, with getting various types of archive material donations. We want to thank the artists who remind us that we are not alone by sharing their archive with us.

You can stand by our side on the road of achieving the goals of our archive and Research Space, with your donations!

We begin with the archive of shaman / performance artist Frank Moore, one of the most extensive donations we had so far! Our Frank Moore archive consists of books titled “Chapped Lap”, “Cherotic Magic”, “Frankly Speaking”, “Art of a Shaman”, “Skin Passion”, “Deep Conversations in the Shaman’s Den – Volume I” along with dozens of various other archival materials such as booklets, manifestos, posters and postcards. In the meantime, dozens of soft copy materials of unprinted documents including more than 500 performance videos are added to our digital archive collection.

When Performistanbul Live Art Research Space (PCSAA) reach its goal, all resources will be available for the use of visitors!

With each donation, we are getting one step closer to fill our shelves with books. With your donations, you may contribute to this journey and stand by our side!

We would like to offer special thanks to Linda Mac & Mikee Labash.

Frank’s archives arrive in Istanbul!

The box of Frank’s books, posters, scripts, etc. and hard drive of almost 1000 videos arrived at Performistanbul, in Turkey!

Here are co-director Azra Asmen and assistant director Derya Dinc opening the box holding the hard drive and a copy of our zine, The Cherotic (r)Evolutionary.

Here is a recent article about the space:
“Nonstop art once again at Performistanbul”

Frank to be included in the Live Art Research Space of Performistanbul

Frank’s work will now be archived in a new performance art research library in Istanbul, Turkey, the Live Art Research Space.

We were contacted by Performistanbul requesting a donation of Frank’s work to their archiving project. As a result, all of Frank’s digitized videos (almost 1000), and all of his published books will be added to the collection, plus other publications, a collection of posters, some original performance scripts, paraphernalia from Frank’s 2008 Presidential campaign, and more.

Performistanbul Live Art Research Space will focus on archiving, documenting and exhibiting performance art while providing space and resources for doing research.

“Over the course of our conversations and collaborations with performance art experts in the past two years, the need to conduct further research and access the means by which to do so has become ever more pressing. To this end, Performistanbul has decided to create the Live Art Research Space to meet the needs of students and researchers working in the field of performance art both locally and globally.”

“Performistanbul believes in the uniting and healing power of performance art, which is at the same time, a very effective tool to reach out to people around the world. This has motivated us to plant the seeds of discovering and creating new languages in the field of live art and as a first step, we decided to establish a specialized library and an archive of more than 7000 physical and digital resources within the research space. Planning to open in 2018, the Live Art Research Space will also launch Performistanbul Publishing, aiming to publish new books as well as translated books in Turkish.”

Frank Moore archives – 1st delivery to UCB Bancroft Library made today!

Keith Wilson came over this morning and filmed Mikee and I loading the first of Frank’s archives into the car! The three of us drove to Bancroft Library, Keith filming the trip as we talked. It is amazing and a little unreal, but we made the delivery! Steven Black, our contact from the beginning, and the Head of Acquisitions, came out with a cart while Keith filmed the whole thing. We signed the DEED OF GIFT on the spot. One of our favorite lines is:
“The Materials will be physically stabilized and preserved by The Bancroft Library. The Materials will be placed and maintained in non-damaging containers and stored in facilities that provide appropriate temperature and humidity control and security …” Wow!

Frank and I (Linda Mac) used to hang out in The Bancroft Library in the 1980s. Steven said, Frank is back here now.
